High up in the Canadian Rockies

The majestic Canadian Rockies near Banff are located in the western province of Alberta. The area is known for its stunning mountain landscapes, abundant wildlife, and recreational opportunities.

We chose to base our trip in Canmore which is about 20 minutes from Banff to avoid the bustle of Banff. Canmore was a nice, quiet town with plenty of amenities without the crowds. Canmore has some amazing scenery and our condo had perfect views of the Three Sisters.

The Three Sisters (also known as Faith, Hope and Charity)

The 20 minute drive between Canmore and the town of Banff has so many opportunities for photos of the majestic mountains. Traveling in the fall offered some amazing view of the peaks engulfed in fog and clouds.

Our first day in the area, we headed into Banff National Park. The park is rather large at about 2,500 square miles and encompasses striking mountain peaks, glacial lakes, wildlife and vast wilderness. One of the most popular stops in Banff National Park is Lake Louise. Lake Louise is a gorgeous, icy blue lake surrounded by majestic mountain peaks.

Our next stop was the breathtaking Bow Lake. We were out on a windless day so the water of Bow Lake was almost a perfect mirror. It was sunny out so the reflections in the water were like looking at the upside down.

Another stunning lake in Banff National Park is the ethereal Moraine Lake. The light blue water runs right up to the base of 10 soaring mountain peaks, known as the Valley of Ten Peaks.
